Skincare Tips
Best Skincare Routine for San Diego's Climate
San Diego's year-round sunshine is one of the city's best features — but it's also one of the biggest challenges for your skin. High UV exposure, occasional dry Santa Ana conditions, and coastal humidity swings all affect how your skin behaves. Here's a climate-smart skincare routine from our licensed esthetician at Full Circle Beauty in Point Loma.
Morning Routine
- Gentle cleanser — removes overnight oil without stripping. Avoid harsh foaming cleansers that leave skin tight.
- Vitamin C serum — antioxidant protection against San Diego's UV and environmental oxidative stress. Apply before SPF.
- Lightweight moisturizer — gel-based formulas work well in SD's warmer months; switch to a cream in drier winter months.
- SPF 30–50 — non-negotiable in San Diego. Apply every morning, even when it's overcast. Reapply every 2 hours outdoors.
Evening Routine
- Double cleanse if you wore SPF or makeup — oil cleanser first, then a gentle water-based cleanser.
- Exfoliant (2–3 nights per week) — AHA or BHA helps clear the dead skin buildup that San Diego's dry conditions accelerate.
- Treatment serum — retinol for anti-aging, niacinamide for pore size and brightness, or hyaluronic acid for hydration.
- Rich moisturizer or facial oil — lock in hydration overnight, especially important during dry Santa Ana wind seasons.
San Diego-Specific Tips
- Use a humidifier in your bedroom during dry fall and winter months
- Never skip SPF on beach days — sand reflects UV and increases exposure
- After ocean swimming, rinse skin immediately — salt water is very drying
- Hydrating facial mists are great for midday refreshing without disturbing SPF
