Why Hard Wax Is Better Than Strip Wax for Sensitive Areas
If you've had a painful waxing experience before, the type of wax used may have been a big factor. At Full Circle Beauty in Point Loma, we use premium hard wax for all sensitive areas — and there's a specific reason for that. Here's the breakdown from our licensed esthetician.
What Is Strip Wax?
Strip wax (also called soft wax) is applied in a thin layer and removed with a cloth or paper strip. It adheres to both the hair and the surrounding skin, which is what makes it more painful — especially in sensitive areas. It's fast and cost-effective, which is why many budget salons default to it. But for areas like the bikini zone, underarms, and face, it's simply not the best choice.
What Is Hard Wax?
Hard wax is applied warm and thicker, and it hardens on its own as it cools. When removed, it grips only the hair — not the surrounding skin. This makes it significantly gentler, particularly in sensitive zones. It can also be applied to the same area twice without the skin irritation you'd get from double-passing with strip wax.
Why We Use Hard Wax for Brazilian Waxes
- Less pain — grips hair, not skin
- Less redness and irritation post-wax
- Safer for sensitive skin types
- More effective on coarse or stubborn hair
- Lower risk of skin lifting or bruising in delicate areas
When Strip Wax Makes Sense
Strip wax is perfectly appropriate for large, less-sensitive areas like the legs or back where speed and coverage matter more. Many professional estheticians use both — hard wax for sensitive zones, strip wax for larger body areas. At Full Circle Beauty, we choose based on the treatment area and your skin sensitivity.
